Mansarovar Eye Care

Glaucoma

The Glaucoma Services at Mansarovar Eye Hospital provides comprehensive care for the diagnosis, monitoring, and management of glaucoma and related optic nerve disorders. Glaucoma is a progressive and irreversible disease that can lead to permanent vision loss if not detected early. As the disease is often asymptomatic in its early stages, timely screening and regular eye examinations are essential for early diagnosis and prevention of visual disability.
Scope of Services
  1. Comprehensive Glaucoma Evaluation
Detailed assessment including intraocular pressure measurement, gonioscopy, optic nerve head evaluation, and visual field analysis. Advanced imaging and baseline documentation enable early detection, risk stratification, and precise long-term monitoring.
  2. Medical Management
The first line of treatment in most patients involves topical anti-glaucoma medications, tailored to individual needs. Patients are counselled regarding the chronic nature of the disease, the importance of lifelong medication use, and strict adherence to therapy.
  3. Laser Therapy
Laser procedures such as laser peripheral iridotomy (LPI) and laser trabeculoplasty are offered as effective adjuncts or alternatives to medical therapy in selected cases.
  4. Surgical Management
When adequate intraocular pressure control is not achieved with medications or laser, surgical intervention becomes necessary. The department performs trabeculectomy with or without antimetabolites, glaucoma drainage device implantation, and combined cataract–glaucoma procedures, along with minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) where appropriate.
  5. Pediatric and Secondary Glaucoma Care
Specialized management of congenital, developmental, and secondary glaucomas with individualized treatment strategies.
Diagnostic and Surgical Facilities
The department is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic technology including Heidelberg Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) for detailed optic nerve and retinal nerve fibre layer analysis, Zeiss non-mydriatic fundus camera for documentation, and OCTOPUS automated perimetry for accurate visual field assessment. Additional facilities include pachymetry and anterior segment evaluation systems.
All procedures are performed in fully equipped modular operation theatres adhering to strict safety and sterility protocols.
Given that glaucoma requires lifelong monitoring, patients are enrolled in structured follow-up programs involving regular intraocular pressure checks, visual field testing, and imaging scans. Continuous counselling is provided to reinforce adherence, ensuring long-term preservation of vision and quality of life.

The Glaucoma services are delivered by trained specialists experienced in comprehensive glaucoma care. The team works in close coordination with other ophthalmic subspecialties to ensure holistic and patient-oriented management.
